This month marks the UK implementation of the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI), a global initiative to standardise diets for people with swallowing disorders and the language used to describe these diets.
Raising awareness of this new framework has been ongoing since October 2017 and its implementation means that catering staff working in healthcare settings will need training to understand and comfortably transition from using the current descriptors for liquid and food textures to the new IDDSI ones.
